The Locals, the newest addition to the Armada Whiskey Collection is scaling new heights!
The Locals, is a very exciting collaboration between the Armada Hotel, Lough Ree Distillery and renowned local surf photographer David Olsthoorn. The award winning Lough Ree Micro Distillery in Co. Longford also has a local at the helm with the CTO and founder Michael Clancy originally hailing from Kilkee and who is still a regular visitor to West Clare.
Spanish Point, Co Clare is a place steeped in notable maritime history dating back to 1588. In more recent times, the enjoyment of the local seas and the lesser known parts of its’ shoreline have been dominated by a special group of people, our local surfing community. These people know every break and reef better than any and have provided endless hours of fascination for visitors to the Armada Hotel. As a tribute to them, their talents, energy and contribution to the local society, the Armada and Lough Ree Distillery have proudly teamed up with renowned Surf Photographer, David Olsthoorn to celebrate these people with the development of this fine single malt Irish whiskey and through a photographic exhibition in the “Locals Snug” at the Armada. The Locals is available exclusively in the Armada Hotel, and the Irish Pub Namche Bazar, Nepal, the highest pub in the world, at the foothills of the Himalayas and a place that holds very special memories for the Armada’s Managing Director John Burke who was the first man from Clare to summit Mount Everest in May 2017. No doubt it will be a very welcome ‘deoch’ for those that make it that far and a poignant reminder of home.
